Balham Charities and Community Groups

Balham is full of charities, community groups and non-profit organisations. We’d like to support them and the amazing work that they do by sharing their details to our readers.

If you’d like to get involved with them as a volunteer or perhaps make a donation, then please contact them directly to have a chat!

Please note that although this list is currently rather short, we will of course continue to populate it. If you’re a charity or community group based in Balham, then please email for inclusion in this list.


The Balham and Tooting Community Association (BATCA)
Bringing our diverse community together through organising events that appeal to all, such as fun days, sports tournaments and local heroes awards. Members include faith bodies, business, voluntary groups and the public sector.
  Balham Community Centre
This centre provides services and activities for all ages including classes, counselling and community rooms for hire.

Balham Milap Group

This is a group for older people that aims to promote the benefits of living in Balham and the surrounding areas. It offers activities, such as singing, and a place to meet others and seek advice and support from like-minded people.


British Heart Foundation

Charity fighting heart and circulatory disease. The BHF funds research, education and life-saving equipment and helps heart patients. The British Heart Foundation has a shop at 184 Balham High Road


Cancer Research

A UK Charity primarily concerned with raising money to fund research. Cancer Research has a shop at 168 Balham High Road.



Certitude provides personalised support for people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs. 



FARA provides a loving family life for some of Romania's most vulnerable and neglected children. There are 2 FARA shops in Balham on Bedford Hill.

Little Village
Established by a group of local parents inbetween Balham and Tooting. Little Village provides good quality baby clothes and equipment, donated by local families, to local families who need the kit but can’t afford to buy it.

Oxfam works to support some of the worlds poorest communities through education and charity. Oxfam Books is located at 116 Balham High Road.


Neighbourhood Network SW12 & SW17
A community group run by and for people living or working between Balham and Tooting Bec. Together, they hope to extend and strengthen links to form a more cohesive community, reaching out to everybody in the neighbourhood.

Salvation Army

A Christian church and international charitable organisation. It is present in 127 countries, running charity shops. operating shelters for the homeless and disaster relief and humanitarian aid to developing countries. The Salvation Army has a shop at 38 Balham High Road. 


Unity Centre of South London

Community centre providing free services and activities for people of all ages including keep fit, computer literacy classes, a Women’s Group and a community space that can be hired. It is a registered charity that aims to bring local communities together, reduce isolation and exclusion and improve the quality of life for people in Wandsworth and the surrounding areas.
